A MESSAGE FROM HIGHLAND PARK FORWARD
Open Debate Requires Openness
Every candidate has a reason for running and a vision for Highland Park. As election season begins, we ask our neighbors to take the time to learn each candidate’s “why,” and to do it respectfully.
Challenge the ideas. Question the policies. Debate the facts. Respect the people.
Why this matters
Highland Park benefits from vigorous debate and differing opinions. Disagreement is healthy, and we respect everyone’s right to advocate for what they believe is best for our community. But public debate should never be personal. We are a small community, and we are neighbors. Winning should never take precedence over civility. Personal attacks, accusations, and hostility accomplish little and, most importantly, discourage others from taking part.
What we ask of everyone
- Read each candidate’s statement in full and learn their vision before forming a view.
- Focus on issues and facts, not personalities.
- Welcome differing views, online and in person.
- Stand openly behind the positions you advocate. Say who you are and who is behind your message.
What we ask of ourselves
Highland Park Forward holds itself to the same standard. Our disclosure is on file with the Illinois State Board of Elections.
As Highland Park moves beyond the term limits referendum and toward the April 6, 2027 municipal elections, we hope everyone will engage openly, welcome differing views, and focus on the issues and opportunities facing our community. Highland Park deserves transparent advocacy, honest dialogue, and respectful disagreement. That is the kind of civic engagement Highland Park Forward believes in and will continue to encourage.
